Odds and Ends
It’s spring at last...and time to do some serious spring cleaning at home, in the yard and at the studio. A file on my desk marked “From Anita’s Desk” is overflowing with reminders of what I have wanted to share with you since ringing in the New Year.
Congratulations to Anne Houston
Congratulations to Anne whom many of you came to know over the past four years via phone, email or in person on her engagement to Andrew Wagoner. Anne packed up her desk in late December to move to Chapel Hill to plan their fall wedding. True to Anne’s conscientious intentions, she announced her pending leave with an enthusiastic recommendation of who should transition with her during the following weeks before she moved and become a member of our team. Anne was always a master of follow-through! We all wish Anne and Andrew the very best.
Welcome Meriwether Maddux
We welcome Meriwether to our firm! Meriwether grew up in Greensboro, NC, and graduated from UNC – Chapel Hill. She worked at Ainsworth-Noah - one of the most respected and one of my personal favorite showrooms at ADAC for two years. For the next four and a half years, she worked as head of fabric sales for Nancy Corzine in the D&D Design Center in New York and was involved in other aspects of this well-known fabric, furnishing and accessory line. Meriwether’s experience, creative talent, project management and communication skills have proven to be invaluable during this period of growth at Anita Holland Interiors. I look forward to your meeting and working with Meriwether.
Charlotte Living Magazine
Don and I are thrilled to have our home featured in the April/May issue of Charlotte Living Magazine. The article focuses on our decision to not only downsize but to live in a small neighborhood with large wooded yards, less traffic, an eclectic mix of people and dining – AND be close to my studio in uptown Charlotte. This was our tenth move, and it was as exciting and challenging as the first. The renovation took place in stages over four years. This was the ideal opportunity to re-design this fifty-year-old ranch house in Plaza Midwood to support a more casual life-style, to “edit” forty years of acquiring art, antiques and family heirlooms and to bring what we really liked to this new home. The patience and hard work makes coming home from a busy day at the studio a perfect ending to a busy day. Trade Secrets
People are still decorating! The fabrics and trims in the new Spring Collections are beautiful. Indoor/outdoor solution dyed acrylic fabrics are moving indoors – and they look and wear great. Antiques are a great value in today’s market. Transitional furniture styles are finding their way into classic Southern homes. Back orders on fabrics, trim, lighting and furniture are driving us crazy! Costs of goods are rising in a time that many question in this economy. The bottom line is, just like the last recession, people gravitate to their homes – their nests – and many want to surround themselves with things they love. Wherever you are on this unprecedented 2009 path, cherish and enjoy what brings you comfort and joy. We, at Anita Holland Interiors, wish each of you a wonderful spring with its magical surprises that are unfolding as I write this.
